
Calgary’s Alpine Park: Where modern living meets natural beauty
Five years ago, Michael Cooper, Dream’s Founder and Chief Responsible Officer, stood in a sprawling field south of Calgary for a groundbreaking ceremony that would transform the land into a $2.5 billion mixed-use development called Alpine Park.
“We started assembling this development in 1997 and today, 23 years later, we are proud to commence development of this exceptional project,” said Cooper at the time during a media event.
“Alpine Park is among some of our most prestigious mixed-use communities, along with The Distillery District and Canary District in Toronto and Zibi in Ottawa. We strive to build communities that help make peoples’ lives better.
“I’ve been walking this land since we bought the first 320 acres in 1997. We knew the development would have to wait until the Ring Road was complete (a new route being constructed which will provide easy access from the site to the rest of Calgary),” he recalled.
“We went from 300 acres to 1,800. We have an enormous position here and it’s one of the best positions of land we have. It’s one of the best positions in Calgary and after 23 years, we now have a chance to build a luxury community that’s totally integrated with how people want to live, with incredible access to the Ring Road and the rest of the city, good access to the mountains and Fish Creek Park.”
Alpine Park is located off Stoney Trail at 154th Avenue — the interchange that takes drivers east into Evergreen and west into the new community of Alpine Park.
Lighthouse Custom Homes is one of several builders on the choice land which in several years will house about 10,000 homes with a variety of styles from different builders in the city.

Alistair Corbett, Senior Vice President at CBRE, who is handling the retail leasing side of the mega project, said there are three retail components to the project:
- Phase One: The Convenience District
Construction is already underway on a single-level, 60,000-square-foot centre focused on daily needs. “It’s gas and drive-thru and daily needs, daycare, that kind of format,” Corbett explained. - Phase Two: The Service District
Coming in 2027 and beyond, this 65,000-square-foot mixed-use space will be “grocery anchored, some extra retail and medical and services like that.” - Phase Three: The Social District
Planned for further down the line, this phase will be adjacent to a Village Centre housing up to 12,000 residential units. “That brings on the food and the entertainment portion,” he added.
Besides retail, there many amenities besides planned for the sprawling neighbourhood from a Village Centre, to parks, to restaurants and cafes, to schools and much more.
